If you had to pick a word to correlate with your strongest value, what would it be? Mine would definitely be FREEDOM! Personal freedom has been something I’ve valued all my life. Although I wasn’t totally conscious of this when I was a child, it was ever-present. It carries over into all activities I find joyful.
That brings me to my recent obsession to capture vast open spaces; specifically skies with drifting clouds. So much freedom is felt by observing clouds morph into various shapes while drifting happily along. They evoke such a carefree, peaceful mood. Drifting along without a care in the world!
Even when I paint florals or when gardening, I tend to lean towards plants that exemplify graceful movement and flow. Nasturtiums, cosmos, vines that flow and tumble about, all enter my work. It’s the sense of freedom felt in their movement that attracts my attention.

I have always loved intimate views, but lately it has been wide open spaces that are calling me. I believe the pandemic with all its restrictions and the fall out afterwards brought me to this place of yearning. A place that allows total freedom of thought and movement. There’s nothing better than being totally immersed in nature with infinite views!
I’m following this intuitive lead and finding great joy in capturing these vast spaces. They make me feel light and spacious. I am grateful for my experiences the last few months. I wonder where it will all lead—-the joy is found in the journey!
So tell me “What is your word that depicts your most important life value?”
Warmly,
Debbie xx

Sometimes its challenging to fit the right word to artwork, I love that you derived it out of your practice. I’ve had a “word of the year” for about the last decade that I set at the beginning of each year. This year’s word is “clarity.” Not sure what next year’s word will be yet but will jot “freedom” down as a contender. ♥️
Oh my God, you took the word right out of my mouth. I define my entire being by that one word, freedom. By the way, your work is beautiful ❤️😊
