Well it’s been awhile since my last post. Somehow, spring sped up and gardening took over. Between my parents place and my own, I was into marathon gardening! I’ve continued with my apple blossom journey in this post, bringing it to a grand finale. Thanks for following along!

When working from life outdoors, there is an element of unpredictability that keeps you on your toes! Much like life in general. After three days of working in beautiful weather conditions, we received a day of wind and rain. The apple blossoms finally succumbed to these unfavorable conditions.
Hundreds of petals loosened their hold. They drifted on winds carpeting the earth below. A blanket of faded, delicate petals covered the grassy floor. Only a memory of their sweet scent and fresh beauty remained.
With the loss of my initial subject, I traveled to a few old haunts to retrieve fresh blossoms in order to complete my painting. Luckily, I hit the jackpot not far from home!
Once home, I worked both inside and on my doorstep. Full blossoms had been completed on site; all that was needed was the addition of a few buds, branches, leaves and background.
I must admit, buds are one of my favorite subjects to paint. Capturing them in paint always feels joyful and satisfying. I decided to add a small branch on the bottom left hand side which I felt supported the painting’s composition. The background color choice echoed the clear blue sky during my initial painting sessions.

One would wonder, why go through so many challenges to capture a fleeting subject? The answer being that it is not just about the mere act of interpreting the subject in paint, but the entire experience. This multisensory experience becomes woven into the artist mind and emotions. It informs an artistic response; making way for a visual expression.
From the artist, the energy and emotion felt is transcribed subtly throughout the work. It is always a goal to somehow translate the joy I feel while working immersed in nature. It’s an ongoing and sometimes elusive process that beckons my participation. I find this connection with the natural world peaceful and grounding. Nature’s healing presence it always available when we are ready to step in time with her rhythm.
Thanks so much for following along on my apple blossom journey! I hope it offered cheer and inspiration.
Warmly,
Debbie xx
